Minox MS 8×25 Macroscope #62206

Unlike many monoculars, the Minox 8×25 macroscope is called so because as well as a high performance monocular, it also makes a useful microscope. The ability to focus 14 inches away makes it a great all round solution for close up work as well as general use.

Setting new standards in what a small 25mm objective can achieve, the Minox 8×25 gives outstanding brightness with less false colour than many so called  ED optics. The field is extremely flat, and this is where many compact objectives fall short.

Easy to handle and focus. Other features include Minox M* lens coatings as seen on their premium binoculars and argon gas waterproofing. Comes complete with a soft case.

illusion 7×50 porro prism binoculars

The illusion 7×50 binoculars are a great choice on a budget for astronomy and low light situations. The large 50mm lens and wide 7mm exit pupil allow a lot of light to reach the eye. Low cost, easy to handle and easy to service make them appealing.

As with many 7x binoculars you get a large depth of field making focusing easy. Also the lower power makes them less prone to hand shake.

Levenhuk zeno visor H3 head magnifier overview

Unlike the H1 and H2 head magnfiers, the Levenhuk H3 head magnifier comes with 4 interchangeable lenses with varying magnifications, instead of 3 built in ones, as with the H1 and H2. I find this version optically better, and this is reflected in the price.

The fully adjustable head width strap is easy to move, and the front side is where the light is based. You will need 2x AAA batteries for this.

The Levenhuk H3 head magnifier is ideal for many uses , such as reading, crafting, model making, and as one of our customers said, for cleaning camera sensors.

Comes fully retail packaged, making it attractive as a gift idea

Levenhuk Zeno 100 magnifier

With a solid zip up case , smooth metal handle and glass lens, the Levenhuk Zeno 100 magnifier is a premium choice for the discerning user.  The lightweight and elegant design of the magnifier is very pleasing to the eye with its rimless lens and chrome-coated handle, which provides for a firm and comfortable grip.

The main lens gives magnification of 2.5x, while the smaller inset lens provides a powerful 5x magnification. This comes in very handy when working with texts or images with different levels of detail or fonts. The 5x magnification allows you to see even the smallest details of the observed object.

Unlike some of the others in the range, this one does not come with LED lights

Celestron Landscout 7×35 binoculars review 71360

The Celestron Landscout 7×35 binoculars are as tough as they come with amazing optics. I find this range is not discussed much on forums, so thought I would take a look.

You are greeted with a sturdy outer box showing a colour image of the binoculars and full specs. Inside you find a couple of straps. A nylon one for the case and a padded one for your neck. The case is nylon, but very good quality with a buckle rather than the usual Velcro. Inside is nicely padded and a very snug fit.

So 1st thing you notice with the binoculars is that they are heavier than your average set. But this is simply because of the rugged build quality that gives you confidence these will last. Although they balance so nicely in the hands, they do not feel weighty.

Everything from the body grip to the twist eye cups and focuser oozes quality. Best thing with these is the optics. The relatively compact 35mm objectives give outstanding brightness and contrast with less false colour than many   so called ED glass binoculars.

You get a very flat field across the extreme picture window 163m @ 1000m field of view. Yes that`s 9.3 degrees. This makes finding moving targets very easy, and believe me the difference between 8x and 7x is minimal. So do not let the low magnification put you off.

The large 5mm exit pupil and oversized prisms (porro) give brilliant low light performance. Summing up, these are a hidden gem that has gone well under the radar.

Helios Stellar II 100mm binoculars overview and specs

Introduced in 2017 the Helios Stellar II 100mm observational binoculars are the perfect solution for long distance terrestrial, ship spotting and astronomical use. The oversized eyepieces and long eye relief make them ideal for spectacle wearers as much as non spectacle wearers. With 20x100mm and 25×100 variants, there is something for everyone. The 20x gives longer eye relief , wider FOV and larger exit pupil, where the 25x helps bring in distant objects.

BaK-4 prisms and fully multi-coated optics give outstanding clarity, and the waterproofing means you can use in all conditions. Note these weigh 3.6kg so you will need a sturdy tripod. Good news is they come with a tripod connection bar built in.

The new body has a very smooth and attractive look, and comes packaged in a hard case.
